Jonny Cope is a councillor representing St Paul’s ward in Camberley on Surrey Heath Borough Council. As a councillor Jonny has always sought to champion issues on behalf of residents including by:
- Opposing the Liberal Democrat administration’s recent decision to increase parking charges across our borough, to the detriment of residents and businesses.
- Leading a resident’s petition to review historic tree preservation orders in the borough which restrict residents’ ability to maintain their land, particularly on the Wellington Park estate.
- Holding the Council administration to account on council finances and other issues as part of the Audit, Standards & Risk Committee.
Jonny has been an activist in the Conservative Party for over 15 years, working with representatives across the country. Jonny grew up in South Norwood, Croydon under the last Labour government and saw that despite Labour being in power for over a decade they appeared to have done little to advance the prospect of people where he lived. He quickly came to the conclusion that it is only conservative values of family, hard work and meritocracy that truly give people the opportunity to advance themselves.
Away from politics Jonny is a solicitor specialising in commercial property, working with a number of high profile clients across the UK. Jonny has acted as a mentor for the Social Mobility Foundation, working with teenagers from less privileged backgrounds to help them towards a career in law.
Jonny is a big football fan (supporting Fulham) and lives in Surrey Heath with his wife Jessica.
